Movement & Mobility
Entryways, stairs, transitions, handrails, grab points.
Safe & Sound is preventive home safety for seniors in Leland and Wilmington, NC. We help your parent keep their independence at home: regular visits, everything documented in writing, nothing slipping through the cracks. So whether you visit weekly or twice a year, you know what's happening in the home.
Start with our free Safe & Sound Home Checklist: 27 ways to keep your parent's independence, comfort, and confidence at home. The same checklist we use on every visit.
We'll also send a short series of emails about what we do and how it works. Unsubscribe anytime.
Maybe you live an hour away and visit on Sundays. Maybe you're across the country and visit twice a year. Either way, there's a gap. A week. A month. Six months. And in that gap, you don't know what you don't know.
Mom mentioned the smoke detector beeping but never said if she fixed it. Dad has been "managing" the leaky faucet for three months. The last time you visited, you noticed the handrail on the back steps was loose, and now you can't stop thinking about it.
The hardest part of caring for a parent isn't the love or the time. It's the not knowing. You call. They say they're fine. You believe them, mostly. But you also know they don't want to worry you. And that's the gap where small things become big ones.
Safe & Sound is a subscription service. We come to your parent's home on a regular schedule and check the five things that matter most for staying safe at home. Every visit is documented in writing, with photos, and shared with whoever your parent designates, including you.
Entryways, stairs, transitions, handrails, grab points.
Entry paths, hallways, bathrooms, the path from your bedroom to the bathroom at night.
Door handles, locks, cabinet hardware, garage access.
Smoke detectors, CO detectors, batteries. Tested every visit. Replaced as needed.
Loose fixtures, minor wear, caulking, drips, small things before they compound.
After every visit, you receive:
You can read it in two minutes. Or you can read every line. The information is there either way.
If we find something urgent or out of scope, we text you the same day. No surprises, no waiting until the next visit.
If you live an hour, three hours, or a flight away, you're not alone. Research from the National Alliance for Caregiving shows that millions of American adult children are caring for parents at a distance, and the number is growing. Brunswick County, with its retirement community appeal, has more out-of-state adult children than most counties.
The hardest thing about caring from a distance isn't the cost or the logistics. It's knowing that you can't be there for the small daily things. That's exactly what Safe & Sound is designed to solve.
You're not paying us to replace yourself. You're paying us to do the things you can't do from where you are, and to tell you, in writing, what's happening between your visits.
You're already doing a lot: calls, visits, coordinating doctors, managing logistics. Safe & Sound is one less thing to worry about.
We don't replace your role. We add something most families don't have: a paid, scheduled, accountable set of eyes in your parent's home, every month or every quarter, depending on what works.
And here's the important part: your parent stays in control and keeps their independence. We don't go around them or report on them. We work with them, in their home, on their schedule. Family communication happens with their permission.
Most of our members tell us the best part isn't what we fix. It's the relief of knowing nothing is being missed.
Free, no commitment. The same Safe & Sound Home Checklist we use on every visit: 27 ways to keep your parent's independence, comfort, and confidence at home. If three or more items need attention, a professional visit is probably worth a conversation.
A $250 value, free for new members. We walk the home, document everything, and give your family a complete picture of where things stand.
Light (quarterly visits) or Core (monthly visits). Lock in Founding Member rate for life as one of our first 25 households.
4 visits per year (quarterly)
$79/mo
or $948/year
12 visits per year (monthly)
$129/mo
or $1,548/year
For perspective: the average annual cost of part-time in-home care is $21,600. Assisted living averages $54,000. A private room in a nursing home averages $116,000. Preventive home safety is a small fraction of that, and helps your parent stay where they want to be.
We're enrolling our first 25 Founding Members at locked rates for life. As long as enrollment stays continuous, the rate never goes up.
Safe & Sound is founder-led by Jordan McNeely in Leland, NC. We're locally owned, bonded, insured, and background-checked. Every visit is conducted by a trained team member who follows the Safe & Sound Standard: the same five-domain checklist on every home, every visit.
We don't do emergency work. We don't do renovations. We don't do anything that requires a licensed electrician, plumber, or contractor. If we find something that needs that, we tell you who to call.
We do one thing: regular, preventive, documented home safety. So your parent can stay home, and your family can stay informed.
Most seniors are skeptical at first. That's expected. The Light plan (quarterly visits) is intentionally low-touch and easy to say yes to. Many families start with Light, see how it goes, and move to Core when they're comfortable. The senior is always in control of the relationship.
You're not alone. Many families navigate this exact tension. We don't pressure seniors and we don't bypass them. If your parent isn't ready, we'd rather wait than push. The free checklist is a low-stakes way to start the conversation. It's just useful information, no pitch.
Yes. Month-to-month, 30-day written notice to cancel, no minimum commitment. There's no contract to fight.
You won't, by default, and that's okay. The whole point of regular visits is that you don't have to track between them. If something material is found or fixed, we'll send a same-day note. Otherwise you get a full report after every visit.
Yes, with your parent's permission. We'll coordinate scheduling, payment, and reporting with whoever the family designates. Your parent stays in control of the relationship at the home; you stay informed from wherever you are.
Probably less acutely, but yes. Even adult children who visit weekly tell us they don't know what's happening Monday through Saturday. Documentation closes that gap regardless of distance. And many local adult children appreciate that Safe & Sound takes the "small stuff" off their plate so visits with their parent can be about visiting, not checking on things.
Safe & Sound is preventive, not emergency. We don't replace 911, a medical alert device, or in-home medical care. We help prevent the conditions that lead to falls and accidents. But if your parent needs emergency response, please consider a medical alert device alongside Safe & Sound.
Start with the free checklist. No commitment, no pressure. Read it, share it with your parent, and see what comes up.
If it's helpful, we'd be honored to talk about a free baseline visit.
